CHSCameroon Health Service

One patient.One health identity.Connected care.

CHS is a health-system vision for one identity and connected, person-centred care across Cameroon.

The record stays in the building

A patient's history stays where it was written. Move between a health centre, a district hospital and a referral hospital and it does not move with them. Every encounter starts from nothing: the same questions, the same tests, the same guesses about medicines already tried.

The cost is paid in repeated investigations, avoidable admissions, and decisions made without information that already exists somewhere else.

Two pillars. One national foundation.

The two pillars are peers: neither is a module of the other, and both draw on the same identity, permissions and audit trail.

Care delivery

What happened to the patient?

Clinically driven and correctable under governance: a mistake can be put right, and the correction is visible.

Coverage operations

Who was entitled, who owes what, was the provider paid?

History is never overwritten: a changed amount keeps the original and records an adjustment.

What a patient actually holds

The physical card is the offline fallback. It identifies a person; it proves no entitlement. That distinction is deliberate: a card that proved entitlement would become a document people lend each other.

How the platform works
Front of a specimen CHS health card: the CHS mark and the name Cameroon Health Service, Universal Health Coverage, a photograph of the holder, the name John Munang, health identifier CHS 0001 2345 6789, date of birth 05.11.1994, sex M, validity for life, and a code to scan for the health record. What it changes, depending on who you are

For patients

Your record follows you. You are not asked again for what you have already said, and what you owe is told to you before care rather than after.

For clinicians

What has already been done is visible: history, allergies, medicines, results. You record care; you never construct a claim.

For facilities

Claims build themselves from recorded care, and the gap between what was approved and what was paid is visible at all times, facility by facility.

For programmes and insurers

Rules are data, not code. Decisions are traceable: who, when, why, the value before and the value after.

Three ideas, in the right order.

First understand the health-system concept. Then see the platform built to operate it. Finally, understand where CSU connects.

A healthier system starts with a record that connects.
